Oregon Coast Mon/Tues

 We started Monday with a visit to a Myrtlewood factory and then packed up the camper and headed south. We stopped at the Tillamook factory, where we had some delicious fried cheese curds and ice cream for Jackson, and then continued on. 

We visited Cape Lookout State park, which was great for finding Sand dollars and we nearly had the beach to ourselves so the dogs could run a bit off leash! Jackson likes any beach with rocks to climb on.

We pulled into our next camp spot at South Beach near Newport around 2:30. We set up and then headed back out. We visited Beverly Beach state park, where we found some fun fossils and an agate or two. Then, we also checked out Devils Punchbowl and picked up some take out seafood for dinner.

On Tuesday, we visited Yaquina Head lighthouse, which is pretty. The lighthouse and Interpretive Center are closed due to COVID but we explored the grounds, visited Cobblestone beach (a beach known for being very loud because the waves rattle the stones) where we saw lots of seals, and also visited Quarry Cove, and old quarry turned beach park.

After a couple hours back at camp for lunch and downtime, we went to Seal Rock State Park at low tide for awesome tide pools! This beach rocked all the boxes with wildlife for Mike and I to see, rocks for Jackson to climb on, and sand for the dogs to roll around.

Then we headed back to camp early for a casual night of burgers and s’mores. Jackson made a friend in the camp next door to play with, so he enjoyed that and will be sad to move on tomorrow. Tomorrow,we head to Coos Bay.

Oregon Coast-Sat/Sun

 Okay, I never blog anymore-it’s been more than a year since I posted anything here. I’m working to get over the guilt. I would like to get back to it, but I probably won’t regularly any time soon. Things have been a bit crazy. Still, we are on Spring Break right now camping, and this is a convenient place to share pictures and details with family. 

We headed out yesterday to the Oregon Coast. The dogs did better than expected in the car. Aren’t they cute sleeping in the back seat? We had to stop a few more times than usual but arrived early afternoon, set up and did dinner takeout and a long walk with the dogs around the small fishing village of Garibaldi. 

Happy Easter! Today, after an Easter basket and egg hunt in the camper (which I forgot to take pictures of), we started out with a visit to Ecola State Park. We checked out the viewpoint, gorgeous! and then went to Indian beach with dogs and boy. 

It was a great beach but turned out to be the least favorite in a string of really awesome beaches!

After Ecola, we went to Cannon Beach, where we saw the famous Haystack rock and did a bunch more walking. 

This was a nice beach, long and fun but cold and windy too. Then we had lunch in Cannon Beach and let Jackson spend some money at the Sweet shop there, and we picked up a delicious Foccacia for dinner later at the bakery.

Then, we headed to Acadia Beach State Park, which was my favorite until the next stop because we saw some sea life in tide pools-star fish and anemones and lots of fun rocks to climb around in, plus the dogs having fun in the water and sand.

Then we went a few more miles to Hug Point State Park. This turned out to be all our favorite beach! Not only does it have lots of sand and water and rocks, but there was a waterfall, several caves to explore and an old stagecoach track that “hugs the point” that you can follow for a way. Very cool. 

On the drive back to camp, we stopped at Jetty Fisheries in Nehalem and bought some fresh crab, clams, and oysters. Now this is what I call camp cooking! Yes, the term glamming does apply, but it was delicious!

Dogs are worn out from a full day of playing and running around. For that matter so is the boy, and maybe Mike and I too. We are showering up tonight with plans to move south down the coast with the camper to a new camp at South Beach State Park for the next few nights.  Here’s on last picture of tonight’s gorgeous sunset. The weather has been great-cold in the upper 40s and wind chill on the beach—but sunny and clear! 

Altogether a great start to our week!
